A Node Garden in Paper.js

Back at the end of June Jürg Lehni and Jonathan Puckey, released a wonderful new javascript library named Paper.js. The great demos that they’ve done to showcase the framework were so enticing, I just had to try something out with it.

WebGL and Three.js

With the release from Chris Milk and Google of the 3 Dreams of Black site for Danger Mouse & Daniele Luppi’s ROME, WebGL is having a moment. I’ve been following along with the development of the underlying framework Three.js for a while and this was the tipping point for me to do a little prototype with it.

Photo Galaxy

I’ve recreated a piece of the UI from the HBO imagine website, simply click a photo to navigate to it. You can also click and drag to pan and use the scroll wheel to zoom in and out.

GE's Genius of the Day

It’s easy to forget all the talented people you work with, now imagine you work at a company the size of GE. A place so packed with smart people they can highlight a new genius working there every day.

This is just what they set out to do and we helped them by creating a section on their global research site to do it. In addition to the site there’s a neat little desktop calendar app that you can download as well.

Go see today’s genius

Particles Sketch

On a recent project I found myself needing a basic particle engine, long story short that part of the site never made it to launch but the desire to play around with particles stuck with me.

I have also always been meaning to go over Daniel Shiffman’s Nature of Code tutorials. Robert always recommends them as a good starting place to understand vectors. With the addition of a native Vector3D class in AS3 for Flash Player 10 that I had never played around with, this was a perfect storm of new toys.

Pitchfork Relaunches With Well Executed Takeover

So the new Pitchfork has lunched with an iPod Touch takeover ad. The seamless incorporation of the top navigation bar into the ad is really delightful, it just makes it. It owes a debt to the recent Wario Land : Shake It ad on YouTube but the execution is just as slick. Hopefully this sort of freedom to incorporate page content will become much more widespread.
