Mitch Eaton

IT Support Technician :: San Francisco office

Mitch is a recent addition to The Barbarian Group, San Francisco. We found him in a basement hidden deep within Apple, surrounded by Macs and Red Bull’s. It took us several attempts to break him out, to which we finally succeeded. He comes to us with a deep technical understanding of Apple computers and their software. It is rumored he has mastered the art of arcade cabinet building, and his walls are stacked entirely with musical synthesizers, but we have yet to see any proof of this.
Born and raised in southern California, Mitch has been computing since the age of 8. He started by breaking down every computer his family owned, and learning about the components. He started his first IT job at the age of 18, and moved to the Bay area at age 20, where he continues to excel in creating solutions, and delivering exceptional customer service. Mitch has always wondered about being a Barbarian, and is now excited to be one!

The 8-Bit Sound

For as long as I can remember I have been into 8-bit music, or Chiptunes. Chiptunes, for anyone unfamiliar with the term, are sweet electronic jams, usually made with old computer sound chips, like those from the Commodore 64 (C64), The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), or the Nintendo Game Boy. I own over 100 original NES cartridges. I remember being a child, and playing the crap out of these games, but I remember the soundtracks even more! Tracks from games such as Batman, Mega Man, Journey to Silius, and Shatterhand filled my auditory senses with epic bleeps and blips, sweeping arpeggiated bass lines, and cutting leads! The music was like nothing I had heard before. I later learned about the different types of sound chips used in theses old computer systems, and the limitations that programmers/composers were working with to make these tunes, which has also contributed to my liking of the genre. Being a musician, I have always tried to incorporate some aspect of old game music into the tunes I create. Below are a few synths, and some software I have used in the past to achieve the 8-bit sound!
