toy guns: a waste of plastic and money

If you show up with this item near our house, consider yourself dead to me. I really hate toy guns – not simply because they promote violence, but because they are lame toys.
Here is why:
  1. 1. They shoot things. This inevitably means broken things and unnecessary collateral damage. Many a decent home accessory have died at the hands of an armed child.
  2. 2. They are usually made of plastic. So, if the fake gun won’t kill you, its toxic off-gassing will. Cheaply made, packaged in more plastic, it’s like a carcinogen hell bomb implanted in your child’s hands.
  3. 3. The moral of the story is death with these things. Let’s teach kids how to kill people. How is that moderately OK? And the more realistic, the more disturbing. If Amadou Diallo came to an end because of a wallet, then what will faux AK-47s bring? Nothing good, in my humble opinion.
  4. 4. They are tacky and irritating. If it makes noise, its stupid rating goes up by like 50 points. If it has shiny lights that reward the kid for shooting, double that. If it shoots water, it automatically gets donated or recycled.
I don’t mean to be a fun crusher, but pick something else when buying a present for a little guy. They don’t need more violent plastic crap in their hands. Besides, Legos can do equally harmful things, especially when stepped upon at 6am.
