Slightly less painful ER diagrams

Data modeling and ER diagramming can be very time consuming when working with large databases. Here’s a way to make that a little bit less awful.
1. Download and install MySQL Workbench. Hook that up to your database, choose Database > Reverse Engineer and VOILA. You have a nice entity relationship diagram.
2. Export that to SVG.
3. Hop over to http://www.fileformat.info/convert/image/svg2pdf.htm and convert your SVG file to a PDF.
4. Open that PDF up in OmniGraffle, make it pretty, add your annotations, and you’re done.
