Going to an event? Make sure you bring your Internet

Swapping business cards at an event sucks.
Let’s face it, we all leave with way too many. When we do empty our pockets, they never see light of day again. Interesting people are lost in desk drawers and shoe boxes.
How can we change this?
Let’s remember, people get excited about our passions, not our fax numbers. What if our inspirations and vital details could fit on one card? What if these cards could be shared using our phones?
Introducing 3-UP
‘A fun way to collect and share 3 Interweb links with the people you’re interested in.’

3-UP is a lovely app, made by Chris and myself , which recently played out it‘s first game at The Feast.
The Feast provided the perfect playground - ’A cross disciplinary conference addressing social change and new ways to make the world a better place.’
Getting involved was simple: Before the conference, attendees were invited to create their 3-UP card, adding three links to the things they are passionate about right now. During the three-day conference, people used their phones to pick-up and share cards.
People’s reaction to 3-UP confirmed that picking up cards was a fun thing…

This was further celebrated by the game stats…
We’ve learn’t a lot from this opening game, and with a bit of luck, game 2 will be round the corner.
To finish up, here are the six thoughts we shared at The Feast;
Simple Human Curation - 3-UP is about sharing the 3 things you care about right now; a blog, video, podcast, book, etc.
Opposites attract - Good things happen when you mix things up, e.g. when a Scientist swaps cards with a Photographer.
“Give away everything you know, and more will come back to you” Paul Arden - Don’t hoard your inspirations.
Magic button – Make the experience fun. In 3-UP’s case, a big shuffle button allows you to stumble across strangers.
Create a goodie bag – Leave connected and inspired by the people you’re interested in.
We’re celebrating a moment - Our collective and individual play creates an inspired artifact, and connects a global audience in the process.
