With all the almost-identical application-based startups vying for attention at this year’s SXSW Interactive festival, I think the idea launching here that will have the most impact on the Internet actually comes from the Film festival. It’s a high-production value hollywood style movie called “A Girl Walks Into a Bar” directed by Sebastian Gutierrez and starring Carla Gugino, Danny DeVito, and Josh Hartnett, that is going to be released directly to YouTube.

I haven’t seen the movie and I can’t vouch for it’s quality, but symbolically,this is a huge growing-up moment for content on the Web. If it is at all successful, I think we will see a flood of higher-quality entertainment, backed up with real star power, created to be released online.
